Peanut Butter; Nutritious choice for runners
Peanut butter is one of the best sports foods around. It is tasty, inexpensive, satisfying, nourishing, and even good for our health.
- Peanut butter is a source of protein, needed to build and repair muscles
- Peanut butter is a reasonable source of vitamins, minerals and other health-protective food compounds
- Peanut butter fills you up with good fats*, monounsaturated mostly, the same as in olive oil and salmon. Your body and brain need these fats to function properly and to absorb and metabolize other nutrients
Here is RECIPE I like: Oatmeal- Peanut Butter Trail Bars

Wow, who would think peanut butter would help. I knew it was a source of protein, but I never really though of it they way you look at it
Jill,
Peanut butter is a part of my regular diet, every morning on a piece of toast.
Also, when going on hikes, my main sandwhich is peanut butter and jam which really helps to sustain me and cut food cravings.

Hi Jill,
I am training for the Boston Marathon. I am wondering if you have any advice on what foods I can eat that are carbs – without wheat?? I am managing a decent balance of protein, but I think my body may need more carbs and I cannot have wheat or dairy products.
Thank you,
Kellie
