Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I totally agree! Right now, almost everything in our society promotes overweight, obesity, and sickness. I think many people have completely given up trying to live a healthy life. Many don't even know what "a healthy life" even means. It makes me want to work harder every day to reach out to people and educate and motivate them. I'm not sure I would categorize this as laziness though, as much as a shift in priorities in our culture along with an overwhelming addition to food in the US. But, we can have a positive impact and help make people healthier.

kudos! More need to say it. My employer joined Virgin Health Care Miles which gives you a pedometer towards monetary rewards, but i got it to find out what shape i'm in.
I was surprised to learn i can walk between 1.5 and 11 miles just while i'm at work, but it is 1/4 mile max each time. Friends have heart troubles, so in Nov i quit smoking and May ran 5k by my house to set base data at 63 minutes (i could have walked that fast and not been so exhausted). So i joined a running club, where i quickly learned my breathing has deteriorated significantly in the last 22 years (now 58). Last week, in 90 degree heat, on our club run, i got a new record, jumping up from 400 yards, to 1.5 miles before i had to stop jogging and walk. The side effects are encouraging. Hair growth on my legs has resumed, scarring on my legs is decreasing (pre-diabetes?), and a few measureable improvements in my eyesight. I never go to the doctor, so i didn't know i was so sedentary. Secondly, i took a woman to see a running club members band, and all the runners went out of their way to welcome her, tell her how good she looked, ask if there was anything she needed, and all the ways runners treat each other. She said she never knew there were so many caring and encouraging people. Sometimes we just don't know how bad we are because we are never ill (or too obstinate to be), and worse, we don't know what we are missing. Greatful everyday that we found each other and can welcome more. Sometimes all we can do is carry the message, so when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

What really drives me crazy is when I am running outside and maybe just wearing some triathlon shorts and Under Armor and people drive and honk or yell things like "Nice shorts!"
I'm sorry, I just did a 50-mile bike ride and now I'm running 10- why do you care what I am wearing?

I notice also that none of these people who honk look like they are in shape at all...it's like their angry form of jealousy?

Love it Jill! A woman after my own heart. Thanks for posting, it shows you care. Not easy for some peeps to hear what you have to say, but a very necessary message.

Amy: i was so disgusted reading todays article on Dick Chaneys 5th heart attack. The list of the drugs he is on is ridiculous and no where in the article did they mention diet or exercise as a solution to his problem. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Amen. I, too, cannot stand it when people complain but are not willing to take action to fix the problems. I could rant on but you did such a stellar job, there is no need. I agree with you 100%. My rant would have gotten into health care costs and why we don't prescribe exercise and diet changes BEFORE pills.

I am sad due to foot pain which sidelined me from my run yesterday. It was so difficult to "rest". I run for health, sanity and to set a good example for my 3 young daughters.

Run strong, and be well!
