Top 10 reasons to FIRE your diet!

NOTE: You will want to copy and print out the list below and paste it to your refrigerator door!

My email gets flooded with all sorts of weight loss products.  It drives me nuts!  A TON of products that claim you will lose 10lbs in one week.  Just the other day I received an email with the subject line “Fit in your high school jeans by tomorrow”  Ridiculous.  Do they think I’m that stupid.

By the way, I don’t want to fit in to my high school acid wash jeans anyway, but thanks!

Actually, a lot of people are stupid enough to “buy in’ to this crap.  Well, I don’t think they are stupid.  They are looking for a quick fix.  Isn’t that society these days.  Make something happen overnight, right?  I mean, who doesn’t want results by tomorrow.

However, when it comes to your health and living a better life, its a matter of making good choices a habit.  Going on and off again on a diet is the worst thing you can do.  It is a zillion times better to eat well 75-90% of the time and allow yourself a cheat day once per week.

My friend and nutrition expert, Joe Kaspar of fire your diet put together the following list and it’s the best thing I’ve seen and read.

TOP 10 REASONS TO FIRE YOUR DIET:

1) Diets make you FAT!

2) Diets have been proven to cause health problems!

3) Diets cause mood swings and misery ( i can relate to the mood swings)

4) Diets give you a false sense of health security

5) Diets are a temporary relief of a permanent problem

6) Diets drain you of your physical energy

7) Diets deprive you of needed nutrients

9) Diets are a band-aid, never a solution

10) Diets destroy your self-esteem

One of the most important health and fat burning tips:

-eat breakfast everyday.  Start your day with fresh fruit, oatmeal, or eggs.  Accompany that morning cup of coffee with water.

Your body needs real foods!

Change your life by changing your mentality towards health, nutrition and wellness. Stop dieting, start eating and start seeing the results that you want…for the long term!

Can you add to the list above from your dieting experiences?  Something I would add: “diets set you up for failure”

leave your comment below.  thanks and Happy Tuesday Everyone!

  1. We need lifestyles not diets. Eating shouldn’t be a program, it should be a choice to eat what you want but keep it balanced in moderation and eating enough and appropriatley to give your body the fuel it needs!

  2. Jim

Excellent post. The diet industry is preys on desperate people.

But what’s wrong with your highschool jeans? Acid wash will come back in style someday soon.

  3. Amy

Great advice Jill. I’m a HUGE fan of NEVER dieting but making healthy choices and then instilling this by living it to my 3 daughters. They will have enough pressures. I also fully support the 75-90% mantra…without indulging life is much less fun!!

  4. Love this Jill! Reposting on my blog. Thanks for sharing :) .

  5. [...] I want you to check out this great blog post by Jill Bruyere (yes, co-boot camp butt kicker extraordinaire!) She wrote this post about why you should fire your diet. I love it and it is very consistent with everything I preach in relation to “dieting” vs. moderation. I found it very eye opening when I spoke to my recent 6 Week Total Body Transformation clients about dieting. Many of them had been dieting on and off for years without losing any weight. Then within the 6 week of our program they dropped 10+ pounds. I wish I could grab Seattle dieters by the belly and tell them to STOP WITH THE DIETS ALREADY! [...]

    Well said Chuck

@Amy: you are doing more than what I see most other adults and parents do and that is to pass down those healthy habits to your kids. I’ll be posting on kids and nutrition in a few weeks.

  9. Hi Jill: Very good advice, with everyone trying to diet, they don’t understand they don’t work, believed me I did this myself at one time ago, and I try , and then I relize what I was doing to my health by dieting. Now I see everyone is doing this and they need to relize they are harming their body. I became a personal trainer and I learn what is the right thing to eat. Eating the right nutrition will make us a healthey person and that is what is important, so Jill very nice put what you said, thanks for puting this on your blog. GOOD JOB!!!

  10. Great post Jill! Keep up the awesome work!
