what’s on your bucket list?

“That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” —Friedrich Nietzsche

This quote was posted in the lobby at Paradise Lodge on Mt Rainier.  I kept that quote in my head during the two day climb.  There were times on the mountain when I was asking myself “why did I agree to do this” .  Have you ever said that to yourself during a race?  However, I knew I would be so happy and proud when it was all over.  And, challenges like this definitely make one stronger.

Mt Rainier accomplished!  An amazing experience and now I get to cross it off my bucket list icon smile whats on your bucket list?   The climb was a bit of a challenge and I am so glad I did it and am back home safely.  We had all variations of weather….snow, rain, wind, and sun.  In fact, we saw an amazing sunrise before the clouds rolled in and put us in a whiteout.  Unfortunately, no view at the top.  It was snowing!

I’ll have photos and more details about the climb up soon.

In the meantime, I’d like for you to share some things that are on your bucket list?  OR, what have you done to cross off your list?

Here are some photos I took from my cell phone:

Congratulations Jill! Wow! For me, it will be to do two things: a 50-miler and a Triathalon. The latter will be a bigger accomplishment for me because I don’t swim – haven’t since I was a child! Again, congratulations!

Great job I thought about your trip the whole weekend when I saw the
snow level at 9000 ft. You are an amazing and tough woman. I thought I
wanted to have Mt. Ranier on my bucket list but I think I will stick to a bucket of beer for mine!

    Hey Jill,

Awesome news on the Ranier climb. You have me thinking about this for next summer, or 2013. Which guide service did you use? Any suggestions? I’m a 3:30 marathoner, and I think I’m fit enough to consider this, but how did you prepare for the climb?

Kent, YOU must do the climb! It was an awesome experience. We had an awesome guide group called RMI (www.rumiguides.com). you and I are similar marathon pace and I continued with most of my usual running but included 2 days per week towards the climb. One day was stair running (started with 30minutes running stadium stairs and worked up to an hour) then another day was a hike. Mostly, you want to prepare with hiking. 4 months out from our climb date we hiked every Sunday and each week added 5-10lbs to our pack until we did our last hike with a 30lb backpack. Other than that I did my usual workouts and felt great during the climb. If you don’t already strength train that is something to include. feel free to contact me again with any questions. thanks!
