Keeping yourself motivated!
Hey! Hope your day is off to a great start. I”m still buzzing from a great weekend in San Diego. Can you imagine a room full of “perky” fitness professionals hungry to learn new and improved ways to build a successful business and intense workouts! It was an amazing weekend.
A lot of what we spoke about is how we keep ourselves and our clients motivated. One of the best advice given was to write down your dream life or dream body. It is so powerful when you write down exactly what you want…its also important to be realistic. Furthermore, write down the “why” you want that dream. For example, if you write down you want to lose 10lbs also write down why. Just putting down “I want to lose 10lbs” is not enough. You might find yourself stuck in a situation where you have the opportunity to eat pizza and drink beer and you know it won’t help you get those 10lbs off, but you eat it anyway because you don’t really know WHY you want to drop those 10lbs.
so, take a moment to write down some goals (life and fitness goals), but also writing your why. I will use myself as an example. A goal of mine is to break 1:30 in a half marathon . WHY? because that is a huge challenge for me (to date my best 1/2 is 1:32). I want to break 1:30 in the half marathon to prove to myself hard work really does pay off and if I work hard enough I can achieve my goal. I’m not doing this for anyone else other than proving something to myself. I grew up playing select sports and played Div I soccer and lately I’ve really missed the athletic challenge sports brought me so I decided to set this goal in order to make myself work harder (and to get to the track twice a week
Here are some quotes from the weekend that have helped me stay motivated and working towards my goals:
“Make each day better than the last”
“Measure progress, not perfection”
“The single most important part of the process is goal setting”
I hope this helps you give some meaning to your goals. Be sure you take a few minutes TODAY and write a few goals for yourself along with your WHY. And if you really feel courageous you can leave me an email or a comment on the blog with your goal:)
have a super day. Be your best!

I want to lose 60 lbs and have a six pack.My why is that what be healthy, fit, stronger, when look in the mirror want feel good about myself.
I am a struggling new mom of an almost 2yr old and motivation is the one thing that I can’t seem to keep. I have not written my goals down due to being an ex competitive athlete. I still think that I can just do it and it will be easy but I have obviously proven myself wrong. I am ready to make a change in my life. My why is because the person I see in the mirror, is not the person that I picture in my mind and I want to be balanced again. I know that my lack of motivation is my fault and now I am finally taking responsibility for it. My goal is to lose 15lbs and be toned and swimsuit ready by September 1, 2012. Thank you for your blog.
KJG: I can relate being a former competitive athlete myself. Set a goal, a realistic one and write it down on paper and perhaps a photo of yourself of one you really like. Visuals are so powerful and when you see them everyday (along with your goals) it will drive you to reach your goals. Don’t be hard on yourself…that’s hard to say to a competitive athlete. I”m the same, but have also realized I”m not going to run the same mile time I did in high school nor can I sprint like I did in college, but I’m certainly in great shape and love feeling strong and athletic.
Very motivational words! I will def be giving this ago. I came across your video on shin splints and it worked!!! So feeling so much better about it. Thank you so much :0)
