Run workouts in 20-minutes or less
some of the best workouts are the short and sweet ones. When I’m pressed for time I often talk myself out of a workout. If I don’t have time to do 5-miles then why bother? But, the truth is that some of the most effective workouts are short and intense ones.
Some of my favorite 20-minute run workouts include:
1) The “one and one” workout. Run hard one minute followed by one minute of easy running and repeat this for 20 minutes.
2) The “burpee mile” workout. Do 20 burpees followed by a one mile run. Do 20 burpees followed by a one mile run.
3) The “high 5″ workout. Run easy 5 minutes, pick up your pace for the next 5 minutes, pick up pace again for the next 5 minutes. These last 5 minutes should be ran at your 5k race pace. Finish with 5 minutes of easy running.
4) The “hill” workout. I find a short, gradual hill in my neighborhood that takes me about 3 minutes to run up. I run up hard and jog down easy and repeat this 3-4x.
